Decatur Dentist Dr. Stephanie Teichmiller, DMD
Dr. Stephanie Teichmiller has been practicing dentistry in Decatur, Alabama for over 33 years. She is a graduate of the University of North Alabama, where she earned her degree in Professional Biology, Chemistry, and Business and graduated Turris Fidelis. She went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree as an honors graduate of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where she also completed an Oral Pathology Fellowship and received the prestigious International Association of Dental Research Award.
Her post-graduate training includes advanced study in Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Implants, Dentures, and TMJ. She brings that depth of training to every patient she sees.
Teacher, Mentor, and Faculty Member at UAB
Dr. Teichmiller serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where she holds multiple leadership positions and provides clinical training to dentists across the state of Alabama. She was recently named Assistant Director of the Comprehensive Care Clinic. The philosophy she teaches at UAB is the same one that guides care at Decatur Smiles: thorough, unhurried, long-term dentistry that puts patients first.
Committed to Continuing Education
Dr. Teichmiller believes that great dentistry never stops learning. In addition to her teaching role at UAB, she regularly pursues advanced coursework to stay current with the latest techniques and clinical research. Her recent and upcoming continuing education includes:
- Spit Happens — salivary diagnostics and oral health
- Anterior Discolorations — diagnosis and treatment of tooth discoloration
- Black Triangles with BioClear — minimally invasive treatment for interproximal spaces (August 2026)

Awards & Recognition
In 2018, Dr. Teichmiller was honored by Ultradent as one of five Icons of Dentistry at Ultradent’s first-ever conference for women dentists. The award recognizes exceptional contributions to the dental profession and to the communities dentists serve. She was selected from dental professionals across the country for her clinical excellence, mentorship, and volunteer work.
In 2021, the University of North Alabama honored Dr. Teichmiller with its Alumni of the Year Award, recognizing her professional achievements and her ongoing contributions to her community and profession.
She has also been recognized in Who’s Who in Decatur and received the International Association of Dental Research Award during her time at UAB.
Community Involvement & Volunteer Work
Dr. Teichmiller is the Official Dentist of the Miss Alabama Organization, a role she has held for many years. She sponsors an annual Smile Scholarship awarded to a young woman pursuing a career in Medicine or Dentistry.
She founded Mission: Makeover, a dental philanthropy program in which a team of specialists donates their time and skills to provide life-changing dental care to deserving individuals. She has also participated in Give Back a Smile, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s national program restoring smiles for survivors of domestic violence, and Donated Dental Services.

A Little More About Dr. T
Dr. Teichmiller has been married to Dr. Chris Teichmiller, an optometrist, for over 30 years. They have two grown children, Ann Sutton and Nichols. Outside the office, she loves fishing, hunting, and gardening. She is an avid reader and a self-described gourmet-wannabe cook.
